Want To Write And Submit Articles - But Don't Know How To Start?

As a website designer, developer and marketer, I get many requests for low-cost web site promotion techniques. Promoting a web site by writing and submitting articles to online directories is my number one answer. A majority of clients don't feel they know what to write about. Here are some ways I try to help them get started that may work for you as well:

1. You talk to clients and customers, don't you? Did the customer ask questions? Take the next conversation you have with a client and make notes after ward about what you talked about. If you solved a problem today, write about how you came up with the solution.

2. Take a subject you're passionate and knowledgeable about. What don't other people know about it? What questions do you always get asked when it comes up? Answer those questions in an article, or maybe several articles!

3. Take a subject you are interested in, but know very little about. Do some research and share what you've learned. If you have an opinion other than what you've found in your research, be sure and give it.

4. Share an experience you've had with a company or product. This doesn't have to be a positive experience either! This isn't meant to be a product review per se, just tell about your own experience.

5. Write about what you saw/heard/experienced with your competition, or what your clients have told you about them.

6. Write about upcoming trends in your industry, mixing references in with your own take on what's taking place.

First, make an outline of the points you want to make in your article, along with any references, facts or figures you want to use. Then start filing in each point, making about three paragraphs. You'll have plenty of verbiage to make your article worth reading in no time!

Then write a summary of what you just said in the three paragraphs. This should wrap up the gist of the article and direct the reader to more information.

To finish it up, write a brief description of the article telling readers what to expect if they read on and let them decide if it interests them. The first paragraph has to catch their attention, so if you have any credentials in the field of subject you're writing about, be sure to mention that at the beginning of your article. This will become the first paragraph of your article.

Remember, we all have enough experiences every day to write an article a day. If needed, make notes when you think of something that would make an interesting article. Carve time out each week, at least to write. The more you write the easier it will become. Really.
