Website Promotion - Two Techniques That Work Well

These days you hear it all the time "build a website" and you'll become rich. Some even go as far to say "we'll do all the work" and you just collect the money. Sound familiar? I thought so.

Now the truth is, those that achieve success on the Internet effectively promote their sites to achieve that success. The unsuccessful don't promote their site or use outdated techniques, which leads to little or no traffic and eventual failure. Why's that you ask. It's actually simple.

The successful site owners realize there's a lot of competition out there and they need to get their message out through effectively promoting their site. They instinctively know that their site is like the pick the oyster with the pearl game at the carnival. You can only pick one oyster and if you select correctly you get the pearl...pick incorrectly you don't get the prize.

Those that aren't successful don't realize that even in the movie "Field of Dreams" the field was built by someone's hard work. For the Internet marketer, promoting the website is that work. You achieve success through promoting your website properly. Do nothing and expect failure.

All this is well and good but how does one properly promote their website. Let me give you two effective methods.

An often-overlooked method is the use of your letterhead and business correspondence. By placing your web address on all of your correspondence people seeing it can easily checkout your site thereby increasing your traffic. Place it on your business cards, invoices, your e-mail signature file, any print advertising, etc. The beauty of this method is you are already paying the printing costs and the cost to add the URL is minimal at best.

Another technique is networking. Network throughout your local community at business socials held by the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, or any influential organization in your community. Just check the local newspaper for invitations and go there prepared. By that I mean have something free to offer them to entice them to visit your website.

Keep in mind you're not there to sell them anything. That will get you booted out quickly. You're just trying to get them to visit the site for the free offer where you will have an opportunity to get their e-mail address and contact information. That's when they give you permission to contact them; then you start a relationship that in short order they'll be receptive to receiving offers from you.

In conclusion placing your URL on all your correspondence keeps your business in their mind...as they review invoices, business cards, and other information they see your URL giving you another chance to do business with them. And with networking people always remember the good experiences when meeting people and prefer doing business with them vs. a stranger.
